Bright ideas for brighter skin

There are many skincare options available to us — from off-the shelf products to traditional homemade concoctions.

We believe it’s important to use specially-formulated skincare to improve specific skin conditions. But we’re not above adding on natural home remedies for a brightening boost.

1. Whip up an egg white mask

This popular Korean beauty ingredient is rich in vitamin A and magnesium, which are both important ingredients for skin brightening. After cleansing, beat one egg white into a foam and apply evenly onto face. Remove when the egg white has fully dried on the face and you feel your skin tighten, or after 15 minutes. 

2. Add a few drops of pure orange extract to your moisturizer

This is a simple way to enjoy a healthy glow. Oranges are a good source of vitamin C, so adding a drop of orange essential oil will improve collagen production, skin tone and remove blemishes.

3. Mask with lemon juice and honey

Like oranges, lemons are a good source of vitamin C. However, it is acidic, which can affect sensitive skin. This acidity can be neutralized by mixing it with some honey. Honey’s hydrating qualities work with the citric acid in the lemon to give you a brighter, plumper appearance. Leave it on for 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your skin’s sensitivity, before washing off with cold water. 

4. Exfoliate with brown rice flour

Brown rice is rich in allantoin, which aids skin repair. When used as an exfoliant, it effectively removes dead skin cells, brightening dull looking skin. Make an exfoliating paste by mixing brown rice flour with water, then massaging gently onto your face. Wash off with cold water. 

5. Moisturize with aloe vera gel

Aloe vera gel has natural antibacterial properties to help flush out toxins, and hydrating qualities to return your skin’s natural sheen. You can buy a tube or extract the gel directly from the leaves of an aloe plant; its effects will be the same. Apply after cleansing or exfoliating, and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Wash with cold water and enjoy brighter skin.
