Acne got you down? Well you don’t have to take it

Beating acne isn’t rocket science, it starts with the right ingredients.

A face marred by acne can be a confidence killer. All those off-the-shelf, acne-busting solutions don’t seem to be working and you’ve just about had it. We hear you.

Our advice: don’t just trust an “acne-free” label — look out for these three ingredients on your next shopping trip.

1. Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid

When we think of acids, we first think of something harsh that could possibly hurt or burn skin. But salicylic acid does the opposite. Here’s an acid that reduces irritation and inflammation as it has common properties with aspirin. It works by unclogging pores and limiting the growth of bacteria. This makes it a must-have in your fight against breakouts.

2. Herbal clay

Herbal clay

There’s so much win for your face when you use herbal clay. This miracle worker can absorb and remove all sorts of ‘pore-cloggers’ like makeup residue, dirt and excess sebum. If that isn’t enough, it can also quell skin redness thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.

3. Gentle scrub beads

Gentle scrub beads

Go for an exfoliating cleanser with little beads, which help to gently scrub off dead skin cells that accumulate on the surface of the skin. The effect is often immediate — your skin feels smoother and your pores appear smaller. Be sure to check if it’s a daily-use cleanser or one which should be used less frequently. If the packaging doesn’t state it, don’t buy it. But if you already have it, an easy thing to look out for is how large the scrub beads are. The larger the beads, the harsher they are on skin, and should be used less regularly. You don’t want to aggravate the skin further.
