ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT AGE SPOTS

In Whitening

There are many forms of dark spots. They can be caused by over production of pigment due to acne, sun damage or hormonal imbalance. However, age spots are linked direct to sun damage and aging skin.

The Pond’s Institute discovered that one of the main signs of aging is the appearance of age spots. And if your skin has dark spots due to sun damage, age spots can appear prematurely. In some cases, age spots can appear on sun-damaged skin even before the other signs of aging.

We asked the experts to shed some light on this.

What are age spots?

Age spots can develop from dark spots that appear due to sun damage. Deep in our skin’s layers, the amount and distribution of melanin become inconsistent as we age. Repeated exposure to UV rays can cause dark spots and hyperpigmentation in the skin. And these accumulate to form age spots as we grow older.

Will I have age spots?

It depends on your skin. In some skin types, age spots can appear as you reach your 30s or early 40s. In some cases, your skin may even develop age spots without showing any other signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. If you have dark spots due to sun damage, age spots are more likely to appear.

Depending on your skin type, age spots can appear in your late 30s or early 40s.

What do age spots look like?

Age spots can have a range of color — light brown, yellow, or even dark brown. They grow to about 0.2 to 1 cm across, and can accumulate to cover a larger area. Age spots usually appear on the face, hand and arms.

How do I deal with them?

Prevent their formation from the inside so they don’t show on the outside. Age spots are mostly caused by sun damage so using skin creams with sun protection can help.

Skin creams with sunscreen can help prevent the formation of age spots.

But if you’ve already spotted them on your face, there are several solutions that can help you reduce their appearance.
