Setting goals is easy. making things happen is another story. You’ve got to be S.M.A.R.T.
We all talk about resolutions when January comes around, but it seems like every year it gets harder to stick to them. The truth is, it’s how we follow through that makes the difference, which is why when you set S.M.A.R.T. goals, they become much more achievable.
Specific
Be clear on what you want to achieve. Don’t just promise to do more exercise or lose a little bit of weight, put a number to it.
Measurable
You won’t know if you’ve succeeded unless you set milestones that show progress. Plus, they give you that rewarding feeling every time you reach one to keep you motivated.
Attainable
It’s no good setting unrealistic goals. If you’re not sure, ask a friend or a professional for help.
Relevant
It’s harder to stick to a goal if you don’t really want to make it happen. Make sure you’ve answered the question ‘why’ before setting any goal.
Time
It’s best to set deadlines and diarise them for the rest of the year. This will remind you to keep going and keep you committed.
If there’s a step towards your goal that is giving you wahala, then look for a quick win by finding something small you can do to keep moving forward – staying on the hustle will boost your confidence. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you need some inspiration, watch one of Tony Robbin’s annual events I Am Not Your Guru. It’s sure to give you some nuggets of inspiration to keep you motivated.
It’s important to celebrate every milestone along the way, no matter how small, until you get where you want to go. Reward yourself ladies, you’ve earned it!
